How Domain & Website Brokering Works

A plain-English walkthrough of what actually happens when you buy or sell a domain or website through a broker — from first valuation to final transfer.

The Process

1

Valuation

We assess the asset — domain quality (keyword, length, TLD, comparable sales) or website economics (traffic, revenue multiple, content assets, platform risk) — and give a realistic price range, not a wish-list number.

2

Listing

The asset goes live with real numbers: traffic source, monetization, backend stack, and content inventory. No inflated screenshots, no vague "6-figure potential" language.

3

Buyer vetting

Serious inquiries only. We confirm funds and intent before sharing sensitive analytics, source access, or vendor logins.

4

Escrow

Funds sit with a neutral third party. Nobody releases money or assets until both sides confirm the handoff is complete.

5

Transfer

Domain registrar transfer (or push), DNS repoint, hosting/repo access, ad account and analytics handoff, and a short post-sale support window to catch anything that breaks.

Domain Brokering vs. Website Brokering

They look similar but price differently. A domain is priced mostly on the name itself. A website is priced on what the name is doing — traffic, revenue, and content already in place.

What Actually Drives Price

For domains: keyword demand, TLD trust (.com and country-code premiums still command more than novelty TLDs), brandability, and recent comparable sales in the same category.

For content websites: the industry standard is a multiple of trailing 3-12 month average monthly profit — commonly 24-36x for stable, diversified-traffic sites, lower for sites dependent on a single traffic source or ad network, higher for sites with owned audiences (email lists, direct traffic) and clean monetization.

FAQ

How is a domain or website valued?
Domains are valued on keyword quality, TLD, length, and comparable sales. Websites are valued primarily on a multiple of monthly profit, plus traffic quality, content assets, and platform risk.

How long does a brokered sale take?
Simple domain transfers can close in 1-3 days. Website sales with due diligence and asset transfer typically take 1-3 weeks.

Who holds the money during the sale?
A neutral third-party escrow service holds funds until the buyer confirms the domain, site, or account access has been fully transferred.
